WEAC congratulates our latest winners in our Book Bucks Contest, custodian John Linneman, East Troy, and teacher Nashira Pearl, Milwaukee.
Linneman, the head custodian at East Troy High School and the 2017 WEAC Education Support Professional of the Year, said he will continue his focus on community outreach by donating the books to the Ronald McDonald House. “I am a local member to help keep promoting the association,” said Linneman, a consistent ambassador of the local union in East Troy.
Pearl, a music teacher, said she looks forward to using these books to enhance her existing curriculum and to connect to the many students in her bilingual elementary school in new ways. “I firmly believe that while I am a music teacher, my primary job is to help our youngest students develop the skills and mindset they need to thrive in our world and to improve it, and good literature is as valuable as good music in achieving that goal,” she said.
“I belong to the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association because, just as our students need strong supports to succeed, so too do we,” she continued. “I am proud to be a part of an organization that demonstrates every day how supporting teachers helps our students, our schools, and our cities.”
