Several state schools were highlighted as part of the Wisconsin Showcase during the third annual Partnership for 21st Century Skills Best Practices Forum held June 11-12 in Madison.

About the Partnership
for 21st Century Skills

The Partnership for 21st Century Skills is the leading advocacy organization focused on infusing 21st century skills into education.

The organization brings together the business community, education leaders, and policymakers to define a powerful vision for 21st century education to ensure every child’s success as citizens and workers in the 21st century. The Partnership encourages schools, districts, and states to advocate for the infusion of 21st century skills into education and provides tools and resources to help facilitate and drive change.

21st Century Skills Leadership States include: Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina, South Dakota, Wisconsin and West Virginia.

The Sun Prairie High School Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Steve Sveum, provided welcoming and concluding music for the event.

Seven projects that address skills in the P21 Framework were highlighted:

Waunakee Elementary School students demonstrated global literacy through song and language-learning rap.
Hannah Iverson of Plum City High School and winner of the 2008 Young Entrepreneur Recognition Award in Wisconsin, presenedt information on the entrepreneurship, business and financial literacy skills she gained by launching a cow embryo business in January 2006.
Darlington High School students, who are working on a second covered bridge project, presented information on the life and career skills they are learning through their special woods technology projects.
Video from the launch of the Wisconsin Task Force on Arts and Creativity in Education and the Visioneer Design Challenge, a statewide event in Milwaukee, highlighted the creativity and innovation skills that will prepare students for the knowledge economy of the 21st century.
Students from Hayes Bilingual Elementary School in Milwaukee presented information on their civic literacy and service-learning project. The project used a cross-disciplinary exploration of pollution, river conservation, and park access as students sought ways to help the community improve the health of the
Kinnickinnic River.
A video of Sun Prairie High School’s High Mileage Vehicle Project supported information about the learning and innovation skills students acquire by engineering and building a vehicle that routinely gets between 500 and 800 miles per gallon of fuel.
Leadership and design team members from Wisconsin’s Standards Review Process presented final recommendations for revising the state’s English language arts and mathematics standards. Wisconsin took the unique approach of seeking feedback from both the Partnership for 21st
Century Skills and the national American Diploma Project to ensure the rigor and relevancy of the state’s model academic standards.
