Big changes are in store for WEAC’s print publication this fall, and it’s just the beginning of a new, innovative communications strategy that embraces new media and changing reader preferences.
This is the front page of the new WEAC In Print, which will be mailed beginning in September. |
“As technology changes, and reader habits change, we are moving forward with creative approaches to communicate with our members and provide greater opportunities for members to interact with each other and with their union,” said WEAC President Mary Bell. “The changes to WEAC In Print are the first step in this major new initiative.”
Beginning with the September issue, WEAC’s all-member print publication will sport a new look and feel. The old newspaper-style OnWEAC In Print is being replaced with an attractive letter-sized newsletter called WEAC In Print. This publication will have a cleaner layout, more prominent feature stories, and quick-reference text.
WEAC staff also are working on reinventing WEAC.org. When that project is completed in early 2009, WEAC.org (currently called OnWEAC) will also have a new design. But more importantly, WEAC.org will be better organized, much more interactive, featuring more multimedia and feedback, discussion and social networking opportunities.
“This is an exciting time for all of us,” Bell said. “Member engagement is the key to our success as a union. Having updated communications tools will help enable us to engage members.”
Some of the columns that previously appeared in OnWEAC In Print will be discontinued, but some will be reincarnated in a new form on WEAC.org. WEAC Member Benefits Specialist Bob Moeller will continue to have a presence in WEAC In Print, and opportunities for providing online financial services will eventually be expanded.
WEAC initiated these changes in response to surveys, focus groups, and other feedback from members indicating this is the direction they want to go. WEAC is continuing to survey and interview members for ongoing feedback on both print and electronic communications.
