Jarred Gerl, FEA head negotiator and executive board member, emphasized the association’s efforts in building trust with the membership. “We are out and about in buildings having conversations with our members,” he said. “The visibility of the FEA is important.”

Spotlight on Locals: River Falls Education Association

In a new “Spotlight on Locals” column, WEAC Vice President Peggy Wirtz-Olsen visits with leaders of the River Falls Education Association, who say that “persistence” is one of the keys to their success. “In this work, you don’t always get what you want,” said Christine Muenich, one of the River Falls EA Co-Vice Presidents. “You have to keep bringing it back around because some people don’t connect the dots right away. You have to help them to see the needs you are expressing.”

Spotlight on Locals: South Milwaukee Education Association

In her latest “Spotlight on Locals” column, WEAC Vice President Peggy Wirtz-Olsen visits with leaders of the South Milwaukee Education Association and quickly discovers the passion they have for their students, their schools, and their union. “We recruit our best and brightest to be our leaders and the faces of our local association,” Heather Hanson tells Peggy. Heather is a 17-year social studies teacher, born and raised in South Milwaukee, who is serving as a Co-President of the SMEA. Heather works alongside Brittany Jadin, her Co-President in her seventh year of teaching, who was recruited as a second-year teacher to join in the work of her local association.
