Nation’s Report Card shows state science scores largely unchanged

Wisconsin students outperformed the nation in both assessed grades on the 2015 National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) science assessment. Average scale scores for Wisconsin public school students in grade eight and grade four were not statistically different from the last administration of the exam. Wisconsin fourth graders scored 156, compared to 153 nationwide. Wisconsin eighth graders scored 159 versus 153 nationwide.

Report connecting NAEP scores and Common Core is weak, review finds

A report connecting low-income students’ NAEP achievement to states’ adoption of standards-based policies, specifically adoption of the Common Core, is weak and poorly presented, an expert review shows. Even if the omissions and shortcomings of the report were remedied, the analysis only provides a very narrow snapshot of how policy might connect to practice.
