Two advance in Supreme Court race

Justice Daniel Kelly and Dane County Judge Jill Karofsky advanced in the primary election to the April 7 general election to decide a 10-year term on the state’s highest court after primary. Kelly received 50.1 percent of the vote, while Karofsky received 37.2 percent. Marquette University Law School Prof. Ed Fallone garnered 12.7 percent.

The only three school district referendums in the state were defeated by voters. The Edgar School District and Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua failed to pass measures to exceed revenue caps. The River Ridge School District lost a referendum for athletic and site facilities by one vote.

In the Seventh Congressional District Republican primary, Senator Tom Tiffany defeated Jason Church, a retired Army captain and former aide to U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, by a 15-point margin in the 7th CD Republican primary. Tiffany will face Tricia Zunker, a Wausau school board member and an associate justice of the Ho-Chunk Supreme Court, who won the primary with 89 percent of the vote over businessman Lawrence Dale. Tiffany and Zunker will square off in the May 12 special election.
