POSITION DESCRIPTION:
This position is critical in the functioning of the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association, the Union representing more than 5,200 public education workers in the Milwaukee Public Schools. Join the fight for worker justice and public education! This administrative assistant position assists our organizing and representational programs with data entry and management, as well as interacting with members and directing them efficiently to the right union and MPS resources. In addition, there are regular office duties and other duties as assigned. The position has regular work hours, competitive wages, and great benefits.
REPORTS TO: MTEA Administrative Manager and MTEA Executive Director
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school degree required, and secondary education preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly communicate and present ideas and information.
- Comfort with technology and computers.
- Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- Experience and skill with data systems.
- Ability to work well independently to meet timelines, goals, and objectives. Ability to adapt to changes in priorities.
- Bilingual in Spanish/English a major plus.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Data entry of confidential membership information and use of database to produce lists and reports to support the Union’s mission and organizing priorities.
- Ensure that member needs are directed to the correct resource and that members feel supported and respected.
- Share in reception responsibilities including greeting visitors and answering phone calls.
- File real and electronic documents for record retention.
- Plan, schedule and setup meetings for members and staff of MTEA.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Administrative Manager or Executive Director.

The professional writing sample should demonstrate the applicant’s ability to communicate effectively. Examples include professional letters, event invitations, fliers, etc. that the applicant authored. Each reference should describe their direct knowledge of the work or experience of the candidate. Letters must contain the references’ contact information including name, position, mailing address, e-mail address, and phone number.
