The Department of Public Education ConnectEd newsletter this week features Wisconsin’s Teachers of the Year, including Benjamin Grignon, a teacher of traditional Menominee crafts at Menominee Indian High School in Keshena, a member of WEAC Region 3, and a Wisconsin 2019 High School Teacher of the Year. “Equity in my classroom is when my students share in teaching,” he writes. “We are on this journey together. This has to be our way. We won’t survive any other way.”


Milwaukee teacher Donelle Johnson wins WEAC humanitarian award

Milwaukee teacher Donelle Johnson, coordinator of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Writing Contest, is the 2016 winner of the WEAC Lewandowski Award for Humanitarian Activities. The award was presented Wednesday at the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association Representative Assembly.


Paraeducator Lynn Goss selected to serve on national ESSA committee

Menomonie paraeducator – and WEAC member – Lynn Goss has been chosen to serve with State Superintendent Tony Evers on a national committee that will draft proposed rules for the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). “With a seat at the table, I can continue to advocate for meaningful collaboration between teachers and paraeducators that ultimately benefits the whole student,” Goss said.
