Throughout Wisconsin, public school teachers and education support professionals play a critical role in the success of our communities. During Teacher Appreciation Week, we have an opportunity to reflect on the immense value that educators bring to our students and families—and all members of our communities—across the Badger State.

Teachers do much more than impart academic knowledge. They inspire students to pursue their dreams. They ignite curiosity, foster creativity, and instill a love for learning that extends well beyond our schools and classrooms.

The influence of a great teacher is both immediate and far-reaching. In fact, we know that quality teaching is among the most significant factors affecting student achievement. Teachers not only prepare students for successful careers, but also teach them to be thoughtful citizens and active members of their communities. This is particularly crucial in a state like Wisconsin, where community involvement and civic engagement are treasured values.

Moreover, by engaging parents, guardians, and caregivers in the education process, teachers foster an environment where learning happens in every aspect of life. They go beyond their classroom duties, providing support and guidance that help families navigate a wide variety of challenges. This commitment is especially important for our most vulnerable learners, for which school offers a critical support system.

With all this in mind, let’s use Teacher Appreciation Week to celebrate and express our deep gratitude for the educators of Wisconsin. This isn’t just about giving them thanks—it’s about acknowledging their role as pillars of our communities. Appreciating our teachers means providing them with the support and resources they need to continue their important work.

This week, take a moment to thank a teacher who has made a positive impact on your life or the life of your child. Write a heartfelt note, send an email, or post on social media expressing your gratitude.

To continue Wisconsin’s tradition of great public schools, it’s up to all of us to make sure the teachers of Wisconsin feel valued and supported—not just this week, but throughout the year.

Here’s to the educators: unsung heroes who reach, teach, and inspire Wisconsin students.
