History of Latinos in Milwaukee

March 4 @ 5:00 pm - 6:00 pm

History of Latinos in Milwaukee

Dr. Sergio Gonzalez, Associate Professor of History at Marquette University, author of Mexicans in Wisconsin and Strangers No Longer, will be offering a one-hour professional development session on the history of Latinos in Milwaukee. He will be delving into the largest Latin American groups that have migrated in large numbers to the Milwaukee area since the beginning of the twentieth century and how those groups have added to the spice of life in the city. He will provide paper handouts as well as digital resources.  Dr. Gonzalez is a Milwaukee native whose mother was part of the labor movement within the Milwaukee Latino community in the 1980’s and 90’s, is a product of public schooling, and is a strong union and pro-public education advocate.  Come and learn about the exciting history of the Latino presence in our city and take that knowledge back to our students!

Join us on Tuesday, March 4 at 5 pm in the MTEA Office Building.  Registration is required, please fill out the form below.

*Note: If attendance is high at this session, Dr. Gonzalez can offer more sessions that will go deeper into curriculum development on Latino history in Milwaukee.
