LGBTQ+ students are often subjected to discrimination and bias in home, social, and school settings. A majority of LGBTQ+ youth have heard family members or peers make disparaging comments, and many report they cannot openly be themselves (Kahn et al., 2018). The recent coordinated policy and legislative attacks on trans youth rights are particularly disturbing.

As educators we are compelled to create safe spaces for all of our students including LGBTQ+ youth.
