Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us
Wednesdays: March 10, 31 & April 14, 2021
Designed to connect with issues that are relevant to us, our students, and our profession, the WEA Academy’s book discussions provide an opportunity to learn, engage, and reenergize. Through reading pertinent new material, authentic conversation, and connecting with colleagues statewide, we gain fresh perspectives and discover new knowledge and strategies that can impact our daily work and personal well-being.
In Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us, Daniel Pink examines the three elements of true motivation – autonomy, mastery, and purpose. For illustration, the author introduces us to scientists, entrepreneurs, and educators that are pointing to ideas can be applied in the classroom to motivate students and improve our instructional approaches.
Discussion will be facilitated by Barb VanDoorn. Barb is a K-12 school counselor who leads book discussions for her school district, the Wisconsin Teacher of the Year Council, and three book clubs. Barb advocates for educator mental health throughout the state.
