Since 1999, State Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Jill Underly has worked in nearly all facets of public education, from elementary school principal, middle and high school teacher, school district superintendent, university academic advisor and administrator, assistant director at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and now as Wisconsin’s most recently statewide elected State Superintendent since 2021.
Jill has been a champion for public education in Wisconsin, leveraging her role as State Superintendent to advocate for the needs of students, teachers, and communities. Her leadership has centered on ensuring that every child in Wisconsin has access to high-quality public education.
A former educator and union member, Jill has advocated for fair pay, benefits, and working conditions, emphasizing the importance of professional respect and dignity for teachers.
