WEAC President Peggy Wirtz-Olsen and WEAC-Retired leader Bonnie Augusta joined state senators and others at a Capitol news conference on September 17 calling for a study to find solutions to the high cost of health insurance for public education employees.
With health insurance premiums increasing three times as fast as wages and hundreds of dollars more coming out of paychecks for premiums, some educators are leaving the profession or leaving the state for better benefits for themselves and their families.
In a video message, Wirtz-Olsen explains how educators’ healthcare is an issue that impacts students and Wisconsin’s economic future. “Good healthcare keeps the best educators in Wisconsin,” Wirtz-Olsen said.
