This week’s WEAC-Badgers Outstanding Educator is Madison teacher Shawn Weber McMahon

Shawn Weber McMahon is this week’s WEAC-Badgers Outstanding Educator. Shawn has been a Music Teacher for 25 years, during that time she has worked with all different age groups. This year, Shawn has moved into the role of High School Choir Director at James Madison Memorial High School in Madison. She is a proud member of Madison Teachers Inc. (MTI) and has been throughout her tenure. Shawn wins tickets to the December 7 Badgers Men’s Basketball game versus the Indiana Hoosiers at the Kohl Center.

Becky Cater of Elk Mound is this week’s WEAC-Badgers Outstanding Educator

Becky Cater, who teaches students with special education disabilities in the Elk Mound School District, is this week’s WEAC-Badgers Outstanding Educator. She wins tickets to the November 23 University of Wisconsin football game against Purdue at Camp Randall Stadium. “I love coming to school each day to help make a difference in the lives of all our students,” said Becky, who is in her 30th year of teaching.

South Milwaukee’s Joanna Rizzotto earns WEAC Award for Teaching Excellence

WEAC President Ron Martin on Wednesday presented WEAC’s Award for Teaching Excellence to South Milwaukee teacher Joanna Rizzotto. “Joanna is a tremendous advocate for her students, advancing the very best in professional teaching practices and sharing her expertise with colleagues across the state,” Martin said in presenting the award to her in a ceremony at her school attended by colleagues and students.

Ripon’s Rachel Thorson honored as a 2019 Knowles Teaching Fellow

WEAC Region 5 member Rachel Thorson, who teaches chemistry at Ripon High School, has been selected by the Knowles Teacher Initiative as a member of its 2019 cohort of Teaching Fellows. “I chose teaching because I had teachers that helped me out and am doing my best to pay it forward,” she said. “Additionally, I love the intellectual pursuit of communicating science in a way that does its wonder justice.”
