WEAC Responds to Trump Administration’s Reported Executive Order to End the Federal Department of Education

Wisconsin Education Association Council President Peggy Wirtz-Olsen released the following statement in response to Donald Trump’s reported Executive Order pushing to end the federal Department of Education:

“All the educators I know in Wisconsin’s public schools oppose Trump’s actions because they believe every student deserves opportunity, resources, and support to reach their potential no matter where they live, the color of their skin, or how much money their family has.

“Since taking office, Donald Trump, with help from his friend Elon Musk, has been working to destroy programs students and families rely on and the investments in our communities that create jobs, drive economic growth, and promote human dignity.

“Trump’s plans for public education are clear, and if he succeeds the real victims will be the most vulnerable students in Wisconsin and throughout the United States. Gutting the Education Department will increase class sizes, and greatly impact special education services for students with disabilities.”
