Managing Trauma: An Independent Study

The CDC statistics on abuse and violence in the United States are sobering. They report that one in four children experiences some sort of maltreatment (physical, sexual, or emotional abuse). Anyone in the education profession knows that working with students involves more than just subject matter and teaching methods.

We teach students first, building relationships with young people that necessitate our awareness of when things might be going wrong for them. Many of the young people entrusted in our care have experienced trauma. This course will expand your knowledge and skills as you work to create a healing learning environment. Modules include: trauma supports, secondary trauma, students who are refugees, race based trauma, and students living in poverty.
