on National Board Certification
National Board is the teaching profession’s vehicle for defining and recognizing accomplished teaching. Created by teachers for teachers, National Board Certification is a voluntary process to certify teachers against high and rigorous standards for what teachers should know and be able to do.
WEAC offices across the state provide members a number of valuable candidate supports including summer and early fall Jump Start sessions, access to online support through mynea360.org, face-to-face sessions, renewal support, a deep discount on an online support course through WEA Academy, writing retreats and a mentor match program. WEAC also provides an annual training opportunity for mentors. For more information about the professional and financial benefits of National Board Certification check out this video:

Summer National Board Jump Start Training is July 24-26 in Eau Claire
Jump Start is an intensive seminar geared for teachers pursuing National Board Certification who intend to submit components in the 2017-18 school year. This professional development opportunity has been designed by NEA members who are Nationally Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs). Over the years these union members have worked with thousands of candidates across the country assisting with component entry.
This training is $175 for WEAC members, $300 for out-of-state NEA members, $850 for non-members (based on space availability).
Registration includes housing, meals, access to materials and the expertise of Jump Start trainers.
Please direct any questions to NBCTSupport@weac.org.
A great way to receive reliable and timely National Board support is to connect online from the comfort of your home with mynea360.org. Candidates and NBCTs can post questions or seek advice in both a Wisconsin specific and a national group.
By joining EdCommunities you will have access to many other groups and resources too. You do not need to be a WEAC member to join NEA EdCommunities. However, there are private groups and resources available only to members.
Connecting with a Mentor
Virtually every Nationally Board Certified Teacher (NBCT) notes the importance of having good mentors guide them through the certification process. If you are a WEAC member and would like to be connected with one of your distinguished colleagues on this webpage who have volunteered to serve as a mentor please e-mail email@example.com. This one-on-one support is available only to members of WEAC.
WEA Academy’s Support Class
Developed for the candidate who prefers working from the comfort of their home, the WEA Academy’s National Board course is also an ideal option for those who do not live close to one of WEAC’s in person support sites. Taught by experienced NBCT teacher leaders and mentors, this course will assist candidates every step of the way from understanding the standards to component submission. WEAC and NEA affiliate members receive a substantial discount for this course.
