State Senator Kelda Roys has earned the Wisconsin Education Association Council’s recommendation in the fall 2026 election for Governor of Wisconsin.
The recommendation became official following the WEAC Board of Directors’ vote confirming the WEAC Political Action Committee’s recommendation. WEAC members were encouraged to comment on the PAC’s recommendation in January.
The members of the WEAC Political Action Committee, representing local union members and public education employees throughout Wisconsin, emphasized Senator Roys’ core values of preparedness, courage, equity, and authentic partnership, all of which align with the union’s priorities for students and the education professions. The committee surveyed and met with the governor candidates who chose to participate in a screening as part of a thorough interview process.
Senator Roys is a leader who has done her homework on solutions to the school funding crisis, and she has a broad, deep base of knowledge in labor and Wisconsin public education. She has a great track record of collaboration and responsiveness, and she has proven that she wants to listen, learn, and partner with public school professionals rather than dictate to us. She’s passionate about us and about who we are as teachers, instructors, and support professionals.
Senator Roys is also an experienced, skilled, and tireless campaigner who will do what it takes to win in November. There is so much at stake this November, and we expect vigorous campaigns and close elections for Governor, State Legislature and Congress. WEAC members count on good candidates who work as hard as we do.
Members of the WEAC Political Action Committee praised Senator Roys following her interview with the committee. “For me there’s no question that Kelda Roys just hit the ball out of the park with what she had to say,” one teacher said. “She had a special place for WEAC, which put her on the map in her first Assembly race years ago, and how personal our recommendation in the governor’s race would be for her. She was strong in recognizing the landscape of the gubernatorial race and clearly understands this is a year where her background will matter. I believe she’s not just going to talk about fighting — she actually will fight.”
An east-central Wisconsin teacher-member of the committee said, “She did her research and acknowledged she would work with educators, lean on us. I thought that was awesome.”
In response to the news of WEAC’s recommendation, Senator Kelda Roys said, “Every kid deserves what I got as a kid in rural Taylor County, the best public education in the country. I am deeply humbled to earn WEAC’s endorsement and eager to work alongside all Wisconsinites as we build a state where every kid has the freedom to thrive.”
