WEAC stands in solidarity with all those affected in the Minneapolis ICE killing and reaffirms our union’s commitment to safety, justice and human dignity. The following statement can be attibuted to WEAC President Peggy Wirtz-Olsen.

“The aftermath from the ICE killing of a mother in Minneapolis extends far beyond the Minnesota borders, frightening children in Wisconsin and across the country who wonder if their family could be the next victim. Our hearts are breaking for her family and the entire community. It’s clear ICE does not make communities safer. Instead, ICE is smothering our nation’s schools, churches and neighborhoods in a blanket of fear.

“We join the call for ICE to withdraw from America’s streets immediately. Wisconsin’s educators are focused on preparing students for successful futures and ICE’s presence in our communities is a direct threat to their learning.”
