Biden Named Presidential Winner

WEAC-recommended candidate Joe Biden has been declared the 46th president of the United States.

“This victory belongs to you, Wisconsin Public School educators, WEAC President Ron Martin said. “It’s been a long road, but our results are well worth it. Building support for pro-public education candidates is critical to advancing our mission. Wisconsin stepped up like never before to lay the groundwork for our future.”

Biden carried Wisconsin, which has 10 electoral votes, by 20,510 votes. “Every single vote counted,” Martin said. “With this win, our union advanced facts over lies and unity over division.”

Wisconsin educators turned out for Biden because he will address the pandemic, support public education and replace billionaire Betsy Devos with an educator as the Secretary of Education. A return to civility along with a respect for science and facts also drove teachers and education support professionals to campaign for Joe Biden, whose wife, Jill, is a teacher.

Wisconsin saw historic turnout with 3,297,137 voters turning out to cast the most raw votes for any Presidential candidate in Wisconsin’s history. WEAC and partners demanded that every vote be counted and, when they were, Wisconsin chose Joe Biden. As more votes are counted across the country, it is becoming clear that Biden’s lead will grow.

At the state level, WEAC advocacy protected against a Republican veto-override majority in the Legislature so that Governor Tony Evers can retain his veto authority.

Before the vote was called for Biden, the Trump campaign had already announced it would push for a recount in Wisconsin. Such a request cannot be made for at least nine days, and 20,000 votes would be an incredible number to overcome.

“That’s a tactic we expected by Trump,” Martin said. “He will throw everything at the wall and hope something sticks. This is more theatrics, but will go nowhere.”
