National Board Certification is considered the highest level of certification an educator can achieve. It is commonly referred to as the gold standard of teacher certification. WEAC offers members a robust variety of supports to assist member candidates including, summer Jump Start sessions, winter writing retreats, school year support cohorts, and one-to-one mentoring.
The research is clear. Schools with National Board-Certified Teachers (NBCTs) are characterized by better teacher morale, higher retention, and increased community and parent satisfaction. The data further demonstrate that NBCTs make a direct impact on student learning. Studies have found that the positive impact of having a board-certified teacher is even greater for low-income students and students of color. Becoming an NBCT is the perfect way to give yourself a raise. Many employing school districts provide additional compensation and the State of Wisconsin provides all National Board Certified Teachers with an annual stipend.
