ESP Scholarship

WEAC has an opportunity for our Education Support Professional members to get financial help to enhance your skills or further your career in the education field through two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each.

GENERAL RULES

Number and Amount: Two one-year scholarships up to $1,000 will be awarded for the following:

  • Participate in professional development for job specific professional programs, courses, or certifications; or
  • Study at either a two-year or four-year accredited institution of higher education; or
  • Participate in Union related leadership training

Applicant Status: The applicant will be an employed, active ESP member of WEAC who is interested in pursuing classes that will enhance their skills or further their career in the education field.

Limitation: A recipient may receive only one scholarship award per year.

Requirement: Applicant must be a member of WEAC for at least 12 months at the time of the application.

Application Deadline: All applications must be received no later than January 25, 2026. Once submitted, all applications become the property of WEAC and the Scholarship Selection Committee. Winners will be notified by phone, and all other applications will be notified of the decision of the committee by a letter.

Alternates: Two scholarship recipients and one alternate shall be selected each year. An alternate may be awarded a scholarship if one of the recipients is unable to attend or complete the course(s) or becomes ineligible to receive the scholarship.  If a scholarship recipient does not need the full $1000 received, the leftover portion may be awarded to the alternate.

Selection Committee and Criteria: The WEAC ESP Committee will be responsible for judging the qualifications of the applicants and selecting the scholarship recipients and the alternate. The ESP Committee shall base its selection upon the following criteria:

  • Reason for taking class – 30 points
  • Union Involvement – 30 points
  • School and Community Engagement, other leadership activities – 30 points
  • Financial need – 10 points

Disbursement of Funds: The scholarship money will be disbursed directly to the recipient in the following manner

  • Half of the money before the course/training, upon proof of registration; and
  • Half upon proof of successful completion of the course or training.

All scholarship money not used by the student for any reason remains the property of WEAC and shall be refunded to the scholarship fund.
