Racial justice is education justice. Every child, no matter what they look like or where they come from, deserves a safe and welcoming school where they can thrive. The reality is certain policies and practices monitor and punish Black and Brown students in schools while ensuring schools with mostly White students are well resourced.

Becoming an Ambassador for Equity is an opportunity for Wisconsin’s public-school employees to be a part of the movement to advance racial and social justice work in public schools and dismantle the structural, systematic racism that exists in our public institutions. Designed in collaboration with the National Education Association, this course curriculum focuses on examining oneself, identifying collaborators, pinpointing racist policies and practices, and creating an action plan for equity.

Becoming an Ambassador for Equity is a blended learning course requiring deep commitment by registrants. There are in-person weekend sessions and quarterly virtual evening Community Conversations. In-person sessions include meals and materials. Registration is not required for virtual Community Conversations. An email will be sent to all participants prior to the sessions. Becoming an Ambassador for Equity is divided into 3 levels.

By joining together across race and place, we can rewrite the rules to ensure every student – whether Black, Brown or White – has current, high-quality learning materials that give a full picture of our nation’s history and the support of educators who are prepared to foster dialogue on social and racial justice and its impact on students and communities.
